I've been mostly out-of-commission this week, with indescribable pain in the left side of my face. I thought it was a toothache, but now I'm not sure. I've tried clove oil, dental cement, Orajel, ice packs, and nothing has worked. Tuesday night I went to the ER and was prescribed Vicodin, but even that doesn't take the edge off once the pain gets started. I seem to be relatively OK as long as I'm upright in a hard chair, but if I sit too long or try to lie down I feel as though someone's holding a taser to my gums and jaw. With the painkillers I can sleep for about three hours at a time, but after that I wake up in intense pain. I have appointments with a doctor and a dentist this afternoon, and I hope they can provide some answers, because I can't function like this. Hopefully I'll be back with happier blog material soon.
Update to the Update (6/17/06): The pain seems to have resolved itself just as quickly and mysteriously as it started. All the dentist did was tap on a few teeth, take an x-ray, and prescribe more pain meds, but without having taken anything the pain's disappeared. Poof! Strange, but very, very good.
